Interest rates have been left on hold by the Reserve Bank this morning. Market watchers, which were expecting no change, are now looking for signs that they may start rising again early next year.

An indicator of the housing market firmed in September, led by Wellington and Auckland. The Mike Pero Mortgages - Infometrics property cycle indicator lifted to 6.99 last month from 6.66 in August.

Potential home buyers may be feeling the sun on their faces in the next few weeks as they venture out into open home territory for the spring sale season. Real estate agents will be telling them to get in now before prices rise and will hustle them into quick offers on the grounds that properties are selling fast and supply is tight.

Property sales jump 10pc in September

The first month of the 'spring selling season' saw the the number of houses sold jump 10 per cent from the month before, while the national median house sale price was steady, rising 0.9 per cent.
